The Mental Revolution

There was a time when I trusted what the big men told me
But they stripped me naked, they bought and sold me
Their lies were like chains, but now they’ll never hold me
Look at me now boss man, behold me

There was a time when they sang about a revolution
But the status quo still won the shootin’
Now they say, “Conform to our constitution.”
They demand, “Internalize our institutions.”

What happened to the revolution?
Instead of peace we got more guns and shootin’
Revolution!
Instead of green we got more pollution
Revolution!
Instead of food we got more starvation
Revolution!
Instead of the ban we got more radiation.

Mohandas is dead.
Martin is dead
John is dead
Jesus is dead

What happened to the revolution?
Instead of peace we got more guns and shootin’
Revolution!
Instead of green we got more pollution

There’s a revolt going on inside my brain.
I’ve puked up all the trash, ain’t never gonna be the same.
It’s well past time for a radical change.
Now when it all goes down, you won’t have me to blame.

What happened to the revolution?
Instead of peace we got more guns and shootin’
Revolution!
Instead of green we got more pollution
Revolution!
Instead of food we got more starvation
Revolution!
Instead of the ban we got more radiation.

Revolution!
Instead of change we got more masturbation
